Allotment

Planted out some cabbages, existing ones have been a bit slugged.
Sprayed the broad beans with soapy water, did some weeding.

Eaten Cabbages:

Planted out some yinyangs.

Also, broadbeans have some bad black fly. Pinched out the tops of some of the plants, and gave a serious squirt with washingup liquid, but i think it's going to be a bit of a struggle. A lot of the lower down leaves seem to be dropping off without developing a broad bean behind. Oh dear.

Weeding, then more weeding

Did some serios weeding of the carrots and the parsnips. The snips are doing pretty well, the carrots a bit slower.

Fingers x-ed that the carrot fly didn't get a sniff.

Transplanting leeks

Transplanted the leeks from their tray and put them into pots so they have a bit deeper soil to grow into. Cut the roots and the tops, just like planting them out, but i dunno if they'll live or die.

Did some serious weeding...

There's some slug damage on the beans, and the brassicas.
The beans are all in a bit of a bad way, so it looks like the second generation is going to have to come out in force.

god it was boring.

Sunday, 10 May 2009

Sowed some more kohl rabi & caulliflower, plus fennel, PSB, a few celeriacs (probably a bit too late, but nmind) and err, some other stuff.

Bunged a lot of peas directly into the ground.

Established some netting over the cabbages, which looked like they were being a bit eaten.

Weeding, of course,

Plantings

Planted the first beans on the frame - 2 Cherokees, 4 Borlottos, 3 Runners, plus some Yinyangs in a smaller line of supports.

Planted first Cabbages - a bit of a cornucopia of different types, since the labels washed off.

Planted some kohl rabis (unless they're cabbages)

Planted out a second set of peas. Also sowed some peas directly.
